About
How did Anarqueers start?
Anarqueers' conception began in June of 2017. It started as a local queer zine based in Treaty 6 territory in Canada. This was pretty big, because the small city it was started in was (and still is) the most conservative riding in the province. There is still a very strong, looming, right-wing, Lutheran presence in said city. But... that's besides the point. The reason for the zine was because there was no zine. There was barely a queer community. There was no Pride parade in the vicinity. The original publication lasted for only a year. Why? Well, that's a loaded question. Rest assured that it has a complex answer, and that the spirit of the zine lives on here in its complexity.
Why resurrect such an old project?
Anyone who is queer (or queered by the state of society) deserves to have something that they felt seen by. Anarqueers' goal is to make the invisible, visible. To make you, the reader, feel seen, sane, and safe.
Why put this on a website like Neocities?
Short answer: this is where the hip people are.
Long answer: With the state of the internet as it stands, such as but not limited to: increased surveillance, increased censorship on social media of racialized voices, sex workers and "NSFW" content, trans and queer people, shadowbans, actual honest to god bans, the Overton Window shift of media in general and the rise of far-right conservative bias, etc. etc. etc.
As of writing this, Neocities has not yet participated in the slide to the right that so many mainstream social media outlets have partially or fully embraced. Link to Terms. Until that happens, this website will remain where it is.
Okay, but who runs this joint?
Someone who doesn't know everything, but is willing to share, hear other perspectives out, collaborate with other queers+trans folks and leftists of most stripes.
On a more personal note, a queer, nonbinary anarchist that's disabled, autistic, north of 30, and sick of this shit; and is interested in doing something to help.
